Going The Extra Mile - Endurance Adventure

Well, first of all it makes sense to introduce myself - I'm Pete Woodward, hi! This is my website dedicated to endurance sports and adventure challenges.

I am an endurance sports enthusiast currently living in Bristol, UK. Since I my teens I have loved endurance sport and big challenges and have since spent huge amounts of time running, cycling and swimming - both training for races and challenges and taking part in them. I also have a passion for adventure and enjoy reading about this as much as getting out there myself. At the end of a hard day on the bike, having ridden through stunning scenery or perservering through major mechanical or biological shortfalls, I have often mused that I might enjoy writing about my own trips. This is the precise reason behind setting up this website - to write about my challenges, races and trips - hopefully in a way that you enjoy reading about them!

Climbing Helvellyn in the Snow, Easter 2008

In September 2009, I will set off on my biggest trip yet - the bike ride I have named the Severn to Sahara Expedition, a ride from my home in Bristol, UK, to Marrakech in Morocco on the edge of the Sahara desert. If successful in this ride, I will cross two mountain ranges, one of these twice, and travel through the Sahara desert - one of the most inhospitable environments on the planet. I plan to write a book about this journey, details of which will be available on this website.

In short - GoingTheExtraMile.org.uk is about doing just that: putting in the miles! It's about the pain of getting up following a long days pounding and going back out and doing it again; and enjoying it! It's about clinging to the top of dark mountains in January wondering why you're not in bed like everybody else. It's about running through the night and then through the next day and into the next night for the sake of a challenge that hardly anybody knows about. Most of all it's about having fun and making great friends whilst doing it.

I hope you enjoy it!
